The Shop

Grooming worth slowing down for.

A short story about walnut, brass, warm bulbs, and the decade it took to get the coffee right.

Barber tools on dark wood

A decade of steady hands.

Oakwood opened its first chair on Lantern Lane in the winter of 2015 — back when the harbour was still finding its rhythm after the season. Alex came back from abroad with a folded apron and a small case of tools, rented a room the size of a stamp, and started cutting.

Sam joined a year later. Then the shop moved to its current home — walnut counters, brass fittings, mirrors we bought off an old hotel across town. Old Town came next, and Theo with it. Same menu, same coffee, same unrushed pace.

— no queues over craft, no shortcuts on the neck line.
